  1. I got a movie in .avi and i want to get rid of the subtitles because the movie is in english, and I understand it. Does anybody know how to get rid of the subtitles after the movie has been encoded into .avi?

    you cant remove hard encoded subs. if they are under the picture than you can add a black border on top of it, or if you really want to get rid of it you can add the border over the actual picture but thats pretty stupid.

    There are filters than can "filter out" things on your picture. These work fairly well with logos but not with subs.

    Basically your out of luck.

  3. Actually there is ONE way to do this, but it is TEDIOUS and will take a long time. You'll have to have Adobe Premiere 6.0 and Adobe Photoshop. After capturing your final video (peferably with Windows 2000 Professional, to avoid the Fat-32-induced 4-gig file limit), you can open the video in Premiere, then export it as a filmstrip to Photoshop. You do this in the "General" panel of the "Export Movie Settings" dialog box in Premiere. Then you can use Photoshop to "rotoscope" (or erase) out all the subtitles, but it will have to do fram by frame. Then you can save the modified file and pick it back up with Premiere for further editing or file conversion. So, if you have the time and the patience, subtitle removal can be done.
