Hello,
A client provided me with an HD clip from a MAC - DVCPRO HD - a quicktime file from Final Cut.
I wanted to open the file in After Effects CS3 on a PC and it looks like I don't have the codec to play back the file.
Is that codec available on PC?
If not, is there any way for me to open that file in After Effects???
Thanks

CS4 has native support for DVCPro HD
On CS3, one way to import is to use a digital intermediate. But the files are 1280x1080, with a 1.5 PAR , or 960x720 with a 1.33 PAR -
I did import into AE CS3 - however the file shows all white video. Doesn't look like it's reading the file correctly. It shows up as 960 x 720...

But CS3 doesn't support it natively, CS4 does (both premiere and AE). EDIT: I should mention that .mxf wrapped DVCHD Pro are supported, but I'm not sure of MOV wrapped versions.
You could use aviysnth and ffmpegsource2 or qtinput to encode to a lossless intermediate , for example. You probably have a 720p file (so 960x720 with 1.33 PAR) , so you would probably resize to 1280x720 -
A few DVCPro-HD facts and tips.
DVCPro-HD as recorded to a P2 card has an MXF wrapper.
DVCPro-HD, like DV is intraframe compressed only (approx 7x).
DVCPro-HD, unlike DV is 4:2:2.
DVCPro-HD is always 100Mb/s.
DVCPro-HD "720p" can be 960x720p at 59.94, 29.97 or 23.976 fps.
("PAL" DVCPro-HD "720p" is 1280x720p at 50 fps)
Final Cut Pro can edit DVCPro-HD several ways including ...
- Uncompressed requiring a large RAID.
- Native DVCPro-HD on the timeline using a single HDD.
- ProRes 4:2:2 digital intermediate using a single HDD.
A Final Cut Pro export in a MOV wrapper at 960x720 is probably native DVCPro_HD format but could be many other formats. If your file is other than 100Mb/s CBR, it is probably interframe compressed MPeg.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

Like Soopafresh said: "Raylight" (only decent DVCProHD decoder on PC that's NOT tied to an NLE system, but it costs a little)
...If you've got an AVID, you can hexedit the "fourCC" QT atom into their decoder version and open it up directly EDIT: withOUT conversion.
