  1. Is it possible to capture DV directly from DVcam into Mpeg2 via firewire? If so what do you require?

  2. AFAIK, you can't go straight from DVcam to MPEG-2. You can, however, save the DV file to your hard drive, edit it, and then encode it to MPEG-2 format.

  3. As a matter of fact you can. There are two ways to do that.

    1. Use e real-time software MPEG encoder such as Cyberlink PowerVCRII or Wincoder. The quality is not good, worse then an offline encoder such as TMPGEnc for example.

    2. If you have money to spend then buy a hardware MPEG encoder and achieve fantastic quality video.

  4. Thanks for the replies so far.

    1) What hardware mpeg2 firewire encoders are there? I only see analog ones, with s-video and composite input.
    2) Any idea of prices?
