Anybody know what is going on here ... I can capture DVD from a commercial DVD movie or from a VCR ... using Cyberlink PowerDirector 8 using the super vhs input built into my ATI HDTV 650 PCI card.

But ... when I usel Cyberlink PowerProducer 6 ... and use the feature it has ... I can watch the video using the s-vhs input connection .... but when I click to record ... it says it is protected content and cannot be recorded.

I thought ... okay ... it is seeing the signal for protected DVDs and VHS tapes ... but that is not the case ... I used a DVD I burned from my Panasonic DVD Recorder ... there is no protection on it. Tried the same thing with the VCR ... I used a vhs tape I made years ago of simple TV shows recorded.

I've got one of those Sima GoDVD devices to try and use ... and last night I went to get it from the shelf where my stereo equipment is at ... well it wasn't there ... so I need to figure ... where the heck did I put it.

I am trying to eliminate what factors are causing this ... I shouldn't need a device to video capture videos that are not protected.

But I thought I would try it and see if this does solve the problem.

Anybody know if a registry hack is available for solving this problem with PowerCinema 6 ?

PowerDirector 8 ... doesn't have this problem. I just like the layout better with PowerCinema 6 ... if I could record S-VHS videos.

PowerCinema also show the same behavior. My solution it was/it is GraphEdit.
Be careful when you deal with real macrovision tapes protected. Without removing the protection you can`t capture these tapes regardless of software used.

I dont have any real desire to copy VHS tapes ... I was only using the DVD and VCR players to see if it will work.

My real goal is to use this function for connecting to my Directv HR10-250 in my bedroom and archive the shows I've recorded that I want to keep.

I've built another HTPC and it pretty much ready to be placed in the Bedroom but I'm bothered by the thought that PowerCinema 6 will behave the same way with the video stream coming from the Directv HR10-250 when I connect it up with S-VHS cables ... yes ... only way to know for sure is ... hook it up.

My concern comes from ... it is blocking DVDs and VCR tapes that are not protected with Macrovision.

The Directv harddrive is getting full really quick ... with all the new shows on ... my wife likes to archive the classic movies she records from the two classic movie channels.

I use my Panasonic EH50 DVD Recorder to archive these shows but the harddrive is full also and just wanted to have a second option. Yes ... Yes ... burn some DVDs and make more room ... yep ... I can do this.

The main reason I want to use Cyberlink PowerCinema 6 is because ... it doesn't want the screen resolution to be reduced to 1024 x 768 .... like PowerDirector 8 wants.

There wont be a VCR connected to my system in the bedroom ... one reason is ... no room ... the shelves are already maxed out ... no room to place another unit on them ... above the Panasonic 42" Plasma HDTV.

The shelves are held up with those brackets attached with sheet rock screws ... some areas are void of real wood and I had to use toggle bolts ... I'm worried if I keep placing more stuff on these shelves ... the sheet rock is going to give and go crashing down ... LOL.

I do have a contingency plan in the works ... to provide more strength ... I've got one of those ... stud finders and I'm going to figure out where the studs in the wall are actually at and add more brackets.

My version of PowerCinema is number 3 and don`t record from composite and S-Video inputs. Will record only from RF. So no info about newer version of PowerCinema. Try other aplication. MediaPortal is free. Here is a old list with software for ATI Theatre 550/650.
