I purchased music from itunes, and stored them on my computer. Shortly after that I had to reload my operating system and load up windows again because I got some viruses. So I backed up my songs to an external drive. Now I want to transfer that music to my new computer but I cant because itunes (on the new computer) says the songs are in a protected wma format. How can I transfer them without having to buy them or pay for some software?

I believe they are itunes cause I have been using itunes only, but maybe they might be music files from like napster or something, cant be sure. But theyre protected somehow and I cant add them to the itunes on the new computer. How can I fix this

  4. you might have been playing them with itunes but apple would turn to dust before selling and supporting windows media files.

some online stores sell them. you had license files in your documents folders that went along with them. you might be able to renew the license by redownloading them if you knew where you got them. without the license key recovery is not possible.

you can try playing them with windows media player, i think it will automatically try to acquire a license, but it only works if the original server where you got them from is still operating.

Actually, the Windows version of iTunes supports importing of WMA files. But no, nothing is available from the iTunes Music Store in Windows Media formats, much less WMA/WMV with DRM.

Solution #1) You can try FairUse4WM and pray that it can remove the DRM, but it doesn't always work.
Solution #2) You can use some kind of streaming media recorder like Replay Media Catcher to record the files while they play. Then you can take what was recorded and do whatever you like with it.

  9. jman98 - don't both those things require that you can play them first? and in order to play them you need the license........
