Strange results when trying to play SVCD

I created an SVCD, then tried playing it and the following occurred:
1. It played fine on WinDVD.
2. Would not play on PowerDVD, got a message about unrecognized format.
3. On my stand-alone DVDplayer with TV, it played as if in slow motion, and the audio was all chopped up.

Any idea what I did wrong? Thanks. :-?
