  1. I burned my first SVCD and was disappointed to find out that there was no sound at all.

I used TMPEnc according the the guide found on the left and used CBR. I know its not my DVD Player (JVC X75GD) because there was no sound when I played the MPG file. The original .avi file works properly.

Any suggestions? What are different ways to get the best possible sound? Another problem I have is that when I try two-pass VBR, TMPEnc didn't decode a single frame in a half hour! Is this because I am doing something wrong, or is two-pass VBR an extremely resource hungry option (I'm running a Celeron 500)?

Go into mpeg tools and click on simple demultiplex. Load your mpg file and hit run. When its done try playing the mp2 file, if it plays then you should be able to just remultiplex and it should be ok, although you should ALWAYS multiplex in bbmpeg not TMPGenc.

Chances are the mp2 won't play, or maybe there is no audio stream at all. In this case load your original divx file in Virtual Dub (tools section) and click file/save wav and use this wav as your audio source in TMPGenc. In the future always do this when converting divx because TMPGenc does not handle compressed audio well, which divx have. But for now just convert the wav into mp2 and take this and your video only stream that you got by demultiplexing, will be named m2v, and remultiplex them together, preferably in bbmpeg.
