  1. Hi all,

What is the best method to capture recorded video from TiVo so I can burn VCD/SVCD and DVDs?

Also, since TiVo captures MPEG 1/2 files based on your record setting, can I capture and burn on the fly? How do I do that, if possible?

    Thanks & cheers.

  2. Thanks for the info.

Went to the linked page. WOW!!!!! More than I thought it would be. I think I will stick to copy recorded TiVo on S-VHS and capture, edit and encode with VirtualDub/Huffyuv/TMPGEnc.

I'll do that until I can bring myself to buying and adding more hardware and hacking. My wife has had it with me and digital video habit. I am going to have to "chill" for a while.

this might sound dumb...but can't you just run a line from video/audio out and hook it to the puter? Thats all i do with my dishnet satellite player (has TiVo functions) I get near DVD quality from the thing and when using a RG-6 coax to run the signal to the computer, no signal loss (45ft or so). I then use the capture card to grab it at whatever bit rate i'm comfy with, edit as needed and voila!! If you're into re-encoding and all that jazz--its almost the same (just takes a whole lot longer).

  4. Hi,

I disagree, if hook the PC on the IRD analog video/audio you will are making 2 more conversions: to analog (IRD output), to digital again (capture). And of course losing quality, you will need to deinterlace too (loosing some more).

I don't have a Tivo or something (I don't live in USA), I have Directv and use to capture from analog, but I if have the opportunity to capture directly from digital I will do.

    Regards
