Convert PAL 8mm tape (Hi8, Video8, Digital8) to NTSC DVD

I've got a DVD recorder that I've used to convert NTSC 8mm tapes to NTSC DVD. What do I need to be able to capture/convert tapes that were recorded in PAL / SECAM format? I'm aware of "worldwide VCRs" ... is there something similar for 8mm? I'd prefer to not require a PAL TV.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe just take them to a lab and have them run them off if you only have a few

I actually want them converted to NTSC DVDs. I want to do them myself. What's required to go along with my NTSC DVD recorder?

please give information on the brand and model of the dvd recorder and the machine/camcorder you use to play the 8mm tapes.
I have a sony hi 8 pal vcr and am in victoria bc
