  1. I have been trying to get on the Lighscribe forum for over 2 weeks. I have registered, gotten the email acknowledgement, etcc... but when I try to log on, I don't get on.

I have sent at least 5 emails to the admins and gotten no reply.

If anyone is on that forum can you PLEASE post something in the Feedback forum that I need help with my account? You can have them contact me at solarbus(at)comcast.net.

My problem is.... and maybe I can get it answered here....

I have a Samsung Lightscribe drive that is printing REALLY lightly. Even when I print on a CD as opposed to a DVD, it is very light. (normally the CDs print much darker and crisper than the DVDs).

I have upgraded the software, put the settings on high quality... I've even updated the firmware on the drive. I don't know what else I can do.

    Any suggestions?

A solution would be just as good (or even better) than helping me get on the lightscribe forum.

(I need to get another drive as well, and if all Samsungs are this bad at lightscribe, I want to know that before I purchase)

yes, there is a setting in the label application (I've tried both Shurething and Nero) and also in the Lightscribe control panel. I have put all the settings on the best quality and darkest image.

  4. all lightscribe settings are fairly light. the option i've used several times is to print the disc twice. it works fine because they are indexed and it will create a darker image.

ya, i realize that... i have two other lightscribe drives. but this one is much lighter than it should be, and much lighter than all the others. I can barely see the imprint. I'd say it's about 1/5th the darkness of what my other drives are doing.

I got into Lightscribe about 3 or 4 years ago and I'm pretty much against the format now. You think your burns are light now? Wait until they fade. And no matter what you do to store them (I store away from direct sunlight), some of your labels will start to fade with time.

If you must use Lightscribe, I recommend only using Verbatim discs. Other discs may simply not be of the same quality. Also, you need to be aware that despite all the claims by the manufacturers that Lightscribe burning does not shorten the life of the drive, my experience with 3 different Lightscribe drives is that it most certainly does shorten the life of the drive. If you are using Verbatim discs and you're still getting light burns, you may have to replace your drive.

I got into Lightscribe because at the time it was very expensive to buy printers that could print directly to disc labels. The printers cost about $300 US, so Lightscribe was a much cheaper alternative. But the cost of printable media and printers has now dropped to the point that honestly, if I was a manufacturer, I would just phase out Lightscribe. It's inferior in every way to printing labels on the discs themselves.

I have tried the diagnostics and it says everything is fine.

also I have tried registering on their forum with a different ID, and I even tried it on a different computer. I have no idea what the deal is. I can receive the notifications, I can reset my password. I just can't log in.

I don't know... I've been using lightscribe for a few years now and I love it. I have not noticed any fading whatsoever. if it could print a little faster, that would be great.

i am not familiar with the print-on disks or how it works... do I need to buy a new printer too? and does it print with standard inkjet ink? If so it seems that would be inferior; the ink is not waterproof. I'll try to check it out.

  11. about the only printers that can print to cd/dvd "inkjet printable" discs are are couple epsons in the usa. if you are elsewhere the selection is better. yes it uses normal ink. there are some more expensive watershield discs that help prevent running.

I just tried it again with a different email account. I now have 3 accounts on their forum and I can't log in with any of them.

Mine were fine too for quite a while, but I pulled out a DVD with a Lightscribe label last week and it had badly faded. It's only about 2 years old. I've seen some evidence of other fading. Eventually you will too.

You need an inkjet printer that is capable of printing to discs. HP, Canon and Epson make them. I do not recommend Epson for a variety of reasons. If you buy Taiyo Yuden's Watershield line of inkjet printable DVD-R and CD-R discs, the discs have a glossy finish and they dry quickly. After the disc dries, there's very little if any chance of smearing. If you could see what they look like, you'd not want anything else. They beat the crap out of anything Lightscribe can do and I've done some nice Lightscribe designs.
