When you right click on a file in explorer and select Details, you can see various info about the file, but my video editing software (VSX2) does not write anything into the Title, Tags or Comments file.

So is the another utility that can do it?

I found a post here that links to a program that will edit the tags and metadata of mp4 videos, but it does not work on avi's or mpg's.

  2. The MP4 container specifically allows for this type of user metadata. MPG and AVI containers don't.

Not sure about MPEG, but there's the ABCAVI metadata editor (at http://abcavi.kibi.ru/ , I think). I haven't tried it, so I can't comment on how well it works.

Edit: Huh. Didn't know it had been added to the Tools section.

  4. A note to the OP: ABCAVI extends Windows and the AVI container to allow the addition of metadata. It can only be seen on computers in which you have installed that software.

But I've seen MPC display metadata for AVIs before, and I've never installed ABCAVI on any of our systems.

VirtualDub is able to add "Text Information" to .AVI files.
The tags can be read with Gspot.

    Another option is ffmpeg:

    Code:
    ffmpeg -i input.avi -metadata title="Moonshine"
    -metadata author="Moonshine"
    -metadata copyright="2009" -metadata comment="foo"
    -acodec copy -vcodec copy output.avi

I looking for a program that can pull from a free music database and get the single (preferably) or album artwork (if not single artwork), the record label, and bpm. I saw a bunch of softwares and plugins that do it but mostly for mp3s. I need one that can work with mp4s. My MP4 files don't have the album name in the metadata and I want a quick one-click feature that can do this easily. Is there such a program and if not is there anyone out there that can develop the software for me?

    Thanks,
    Aundre

Not true. The AVI container natively allows for metadata tags. You could actually add/edit the metadata manually using a hex editor, without ever installing abcAVI, but unless you're working with video files larger than 2GB (which abcAVI will not read), it's much easier to use the software. abcAVI is capable of adding INFO, MovieID, and IDivX tags. I can add/edit tag info on my computer running Win7, and it will show up on my brother's computer running WinXP, and he has never installed abcAVI.

abcAVI does, however, allow for adding "extended" tags (such as Secondary Genre, Cinematographer, Production Studio, etc.), many of which are only useful if you use the software to export your video library to a text file, since they are not read by Windows.
Do or do not. There is no "try." - Yoda
