If I understand correctly, multiavcnd creates m2ts file that can be burned on to dvd5 or dvd9, but can not be watchedwith a regular home dvd, right?

Yes. Multi-AVCHD does not create DVD compliant output. If you want to convert HD material for DVD it needs to be resized, encoded to mpeg-2 and authored for DVD. There are plenty of tools to do this. Which one depends on what your source material is.
