I just bought a camcorder and saved the mts files to my computer and I want to be able to convert them to another video format( not sure which), because I want the one that will preserve the original 1080p quality. Are there any guides that walk you through this? If not, how does someone do it?

Opps, did not realize I posted this in advanced video conversion. It probably belongs somewhere else, but I am unable to delete it or move it.

  3. Depends on what your intended output format is, where you intend to play it, whether you need to edit it, etc.

    Well,

I want to be able to play it on the computer and on my 1080P televesion which I know are two separate discussions. I actually followed this guide:

    https://forum.videohelp.com/topic347139.html

which converted the mts files to xvid, but I don't believe this keeps it at 1080P. Is this correct?

Basically, I first just want to be able to play it back on the computer at 1080P and then convert it to blu-ray or dvd?

You can probably play the mts directly using splash or mpchc.

I tried the media player home classic and the video was very choppy. I'll have to try the other one.

My hardware is probably not strong enough, I am assuming that is why I got choppy video. Am I assuming correct?

Thanks for the help so far.

Trying splash and I hear audio, but it gives me the error "Failed to create overlay surface". Any ideas what causes this?

  9. You can try to troubleshoot your video playback (maybe by switching to a faster decoder). But if your CPU is old, it probably won't help.

You can convert the video to an easier format to play, like XviD. Try XviD4PSP for this.

Great, thanks for the link. I am all new to all this stuff, so seeing something like a decoder makes me have to go do some research on what that actually is lol, I feel like an idiot.

Thanks for the help so far.
