I'm a BIG Newbie! I have successfully produced several videos, some online, however I really don't know what i'm doing and it's hit and miss.

I have this 2 min recording I want to get on the web. Here is the result of the of the video. I'm referring to the front talker on the front of the page. We pulled off the green screen fairly well, but notice the Interlacing?

I dug down to the original MTS recorded on my Canon HG10. I *think* it was recorded in 24p, not 30fps. Now when I play the original MTS in VLC player or Vegas 9.0 Platnium, I see the 'interlacing'.

    What heck to I do?

We successfully pulled this off in the past, here's a successful example

So, did I do something wrong in the recording settings? Something tells me I shouldn't have used 24p.

  2. HG10 in 24p mode records 24p in 30i stream. So you have to IVTC it to get back the original 24p content. Vegas can't handle this natively, the only way I know how is to use avisynth to encode to a digital intermediate for import into vegas

If you shot in 30i mode, then Vegas could handle it natively - but poorly (because it's deinterlacer is of low quality and either blends frames or leave lots of jaggies depending on what mode you choose)

Does anyone know a way to IVTC this video without avisynth? I'm not good with scripting.

    Thanks for info Poisondeathray!

  4. I think cineform can do it , but I'm certain avisynth can do it and it's free.

First make sure what you have is indeed 24p in 30i, not just true 30i footage that you forgot to deinterlace.

IVTC in avisynth is not too difficult for your purposes, just 2 or 3 short lines. I'll outline the procedure in case you want to do it, if can't find another option.

    1) Install avisynth, haali media splitter, lagarith, ffdshow if you already haven't. Download TIVTC package and put tivtc.dll in the avisynth/plugins folder
    http://avisynth.org/mediawiki/TIVTC

    2) Open a text file in notepad in the same directory as the video, write the following (adjusting the filename to match). In this example I resized to 1:1 square pixels (instead of anamporhic as the original). Save the script, then rename the file extension from .txt to .avs

    Code:
    DirectShowSource("video.MTS")
    TFM().TDecimate()
    LanczosResize(1920,1080)
    3) Open that .avs file in virtualdub. Video=>select fast recompress. Video=>compression select lagarith , File=>Save as AVI. This will generate a huge AVI file (losslessly compressed) , so make sure you have extra HD space

    4) Import that lagarith AVI file into Vegas, the new project settings would be 1920x1080 23.976fps

I'm not sure if Vegas has spill surpressor or if there are workarounds (I usually use after effects for keying), but you have tiny bit of green spill in your 2 examples

Thank You for your information. I'm sorry that I'm such a newbie at this, it's slightly starting to make sense, but not nearly enough to wrap my head around this yet. I think I might actually have a 30i video, not even quite sure what that means, but I think I have have that I have not deinterlaced. If that is the case, what do I have to do? Here is the file properties from the raw MTS file

The other option I'm thinking about, and I HOPE I'm not violating any of the terms and conditions on this site (If I am, I'm sorry and please remove this post).

If anyone wants to do this for me, I can afford to make a small paypal payment for your time. I would think this won't take more than 30 minutes.

Simply download the MTS file, deinterlace, trim the video at the begining and end, remove the background and render in an uncompressed AVI with transparent background (Alpha channel somthing) and send back to us so we can convert to FLV.
