FFmpeg is a converter, not a decoder. You can get DivX 7, which is a free and fast decoder. FFDShow is another free and fast decoder, but it handles more than just H.264.Originally Posted by TheMoreYouKnow
All decoders (DirectShow decoders) will work in WMP as well as any other DirectShow players (e.g. MPC-HC, KMPlayer, ZoomPlayer, etc. but not VLC).
edit: If your problem is that H.264 in AVI doesn't play but H.264 in MKV does, then your splitter is probably wrongly configured.
