I found this site a few years ago. My Panasonic DMR-ES20 DVD Recorder, 2006 model, would not
record or play. My husband wanted to toss the recorder and just get a new one. I
like to try and fix things before we toss them. I took the DVD apart, cleaned the
spindle and put it back together. It has worked great every since. Today, our
Pioneer DV 414 player would not play a dvd and made a really loud sound. I took
it apart, cleaned the spindle and put it back together. I am glad to say that this
also worked. If you are just going to toss it anyway, you might as well try to
fix it yourself. I know this thread is old but the information is still really helpful.
Without this site, they both probably would have been in the trash.
