Hey guys, I recently have been looking for an editing software for either MKV or m2ts videos that does NOT re-encode.

I was originally using TSPE for m2ts videos, but my license for that has expired, so i need to find another option. I searched and found that avidemux was the best editor for MKV.

I would prefer not to use MKVtoolnix as there is no visual display, and i dont really know how to work it lol

anyway, my MKV file has H264 video and AAC audio. Whenever i edit my video on avidemux and save it, its a complete disaster. for some reason, the audio that plays between 2 cut points still plays at the second cut point.

To better explain, lets say I have 3 points: A, B, and C. I want A, and C, so i try to delete B. When I do that, the audio from B still plays DURING the video of C, which is a big problem.

can anyone help me out with this, or tell me another editor i could possibly use for mkv/m2ts? much appreciated.

  2. Did you navigate & cut on keyframes using avidemux? There is no good mkv editor. You should do your editing before encoding to h.264/aac/mkv.

For m2ts you can try tsdoctor , ts sniper, h.264 ts cutter

Could you explain about cutting keyframes? All I did was play the video up to the point I wanted to Cut, paused it, and then pressed Cut A. Then I kept playing it till the end of the Cut, where i pressed Cut B, then I deleted it.

The original file is an MKV.

For TS Sniper and H264 cutter, i always get errors trying to use those, and am unable to do any cutting.

As for ts doctor, it works well for me, but the problem is it seems to be able to only cut once, at least thats what i think. I want to make multiple edits and cuts, but ts doctor seems to only let me cut once, unless i am mistaken?

  4. You can't cut on any frame, it has to be a keyframe (I-frame). There is no frame accurate h.264 editor, so your cuts won't be perfect. You navigate by using "<<" and ">>" buttons. Even this isn't guarenteed to work, there is no good h.264/aac/mkv editor.

I see, so itd be best to find an editor for m2ts instead.

So thats what im looking for, an editor for m2ts that does not re encode the file!

  6. No, because the limitation is with h.264 video, not necessarily specific to mkv or m2ts or other transport streams. There isn't any frame accurate h.264 editor yet, that only encodes the GOP (the few frames around the cut site). Videoredo is working on one, but who knows how long until it becomes retail.

As to tsSniper, install (or re-install) ffdshow and Haali splitter. In Settings, go to DirectShow tab and change preferred splitter/demuxer from "automatic" (the default) to "Haali Media Splitter (AR)". When jumping forward or backward (using jump buttons << or >>, and the frame advance < or >), it's best to have it on "pause", not "play" or the program will likely crash.

And yes, it's not frame accurate. If you have a few frames of black screen between scenes or a fade-in/out, chances are you can make a clean cut, otherwise, no. Still, tsSniper seems to me to be the best of the lot for freeware H.264 editors. I've tried just about all the free ones available, and some payware editors as well.

    Good luck.
    Pull! Bang! Darn!
