  1. Let me nominate MyFlix 3.0.5 for the title of best MPEG1 editor/cutter/joiner. It's extremely easy to use, lets you save in either MPEG format or VCD-compliant format (select the VCD extension when generating video), and best of all, it doesn't suffer the cutting location inaccuracy often experienced in TMPEG.

After months of enduring and compensating for TMPEG's cutting inaccuracy (it would include in my clips about a half-second of A/V that I hadn't marked for inclusion), I can finally wash my hands of it. I just wish I'd discovered MyFlix sooner.

  2. ... as long as you don't do vbr. I've found this on their website (faq):

Editing variable bitrate MPEG-1 videos in MyFlix is currently not supported

    I'll continue struggling with TMPEG.

  3. Good point...I don't use VBR. Does it really make much of a difference?

  4. It makes much of a difference if you are concerned about file size ... well, I guess that wasn't your question.

They want us to buy their pro version.

  5. Doug,

What is the quality? Will mpeg1 file loss of little quality after editing?

In my eyes, using TmpgEnc to cut and join VCD mpeg1 will not make any loss of quality. But I do agree TmpgEnc is not ease to use for editing.

I have found VCDcutter to be a convenient program--its a simple cut and paste job with no re-encoding--the only down side is that you have to multiplex with tmpgenc when you're done--not that big of a deal but still.. I'm still looking for a good VBR editor but alas no luck. I said it before and I'll say it again, Tmpgenc SUX for editing :P

I have found Ifilmedit to be very convenient for cutting and joining
    Mpeg-1 files...Moreover it is leass than 3MB

  8. iFilmedit is indeed not bad, but a major drawback is that it can only cut at keyframes, it is not a true frame by frame editor. Actual cut might be a few seconds off where you thought the software was gonna cut. It s good for quick jobs though, like when you want to convert a MPEG file to VCD compliant without too much hassle.

I have used TMPGENC and Moviestar (editing software that comes with the Dazzle DVCII) with much better results.

  9. to me mpeg1vcr ( womble ) is worth the $40 for just cuting and joining ( dont know if you can mess with bitrates etc ) .... the $200+ for the mpeg2 version on the other hand is a rip

Well, I've downloadaed the latest version of MyFlix and tried it. Video comes as garbage after cutting, blocks flying in from the left side of the screen avery 15-20 seconds or so.
I'm back to TMPEGenc for cutting then.

I downloaded MyFlix 3.05 twice. Installed it. Then when I got to the part to click on it to start it, it froze.
Clicked on the pull down menus, nothing happened. Then I would have to press cntl-alt-del in WinMe to forcefully delete the "not-responding" program.

I have 384MB of ram, so it a should run fine.

I was able to download the 1.?? version which I would demo, although the limitation on the demo was unfortunate.

    Any suggestions ?

    Thanks,

    Jon
