Is there any way to create custom output profiles in Windows Live Movie Maker?
At present, the only included options are:
- Upload to youtube
- 1080p 8mbps
- 720p 6mbps
- 720x480 3mbps
- 640x480 3mbps
- 320x240 1.7mbps
- 320x240 290kbps
Of course, all are WMV, which is fine.
I'd like to create my own output settings, perhaps 400x225 500kbps or something.
Now, it looks like the output profiles are located in [Root]:\Program Files\Windows Live\Photo Gallery\Video Profiles\, but any attempts to change these (or create new ones) don't result in any changes in WLMM.
Any ideas?

Thanks, after much tinkering I was able to get custom profiles in WLMM. To do so, I did the following:
- Downloaded Windows Media Encoder (WME)
- Used WME to create custom output profiles (after that I just started using Windows Media Profile Editor, which may or may not be included in Windows 7?)
- Created a <drive>:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\Profiles folder
- Enabled write permissions for everyone in that folder
- Used WME to save the profiles in that folder
- Restarted WLMM to load the new custom profiles
But now I am still having damn audio/video sync issues. I'm using a .wmv as my source media. When I cut it down to a shorter clip that starts at the beginning of the source video, the resulting output video is in sync. But when I cut it down to a shorter clip that starts midway through the source video, the resulting output video is at least a half second out of sync. Just painful to watch. Any idea why? -
Problem solved.
WLMM doesn't seem to like working with large WMV videos as the source media. So I converted the original MPEGs to MP4 format, which WLMM handled quite nicely. All is now well in the world of A/V sync. -
Hey Folks,
With the latest beta release of the Windows Live Movie Maker on AUG 17 2010, users can create a custom output profile and can choose the following settings: width, height, frames/s, bit rate, audio settings.
In order to create a Custome Profile, simply follow these steps:
1. Add your video to WLMM
2. Set your project's aspect ratio to Standard/Widescreen
3. Then, go to Share group (on the Home tab), then click on the Save Movie (drop down button), then go down the list and choose "Create Custom Setting".
4. Now, you can save a custom personal profile.
5. After you save your custom profile setting, you can go back to the Save Movie drop down button and save your movie with your personal output profile.
6. Publish to YouTube, Facebook, Flickr, Skydrive or save your movie to your computer.Last edited by LiveMovieMaker; 27th Aug 2010 at 13:47. Reason: Adding correct link
