I can't figure out how to convert an .ISO movie to an XVID with FairUse Wizard.

I have version 2.9 LE. I have read all of the online guides and nothing makes sense. Can anyone here give me step by step instructions on how to do this?

    1. Project Name (I don't understand session, part, chapter)

    2. I don't see any way to choose an ISO file at all.

    3. What output is supported by the Free LE Version?

    Thanks!

  2. Mount ISO as a virtual drive with Daemon Tools.

I know how to mount the image with Daemon Tools and use AutoGK to do the conversion, but I wanted to try FairUse Wizard. I guess no one here knows how. Thanks anyway.

  5. And what makes you think FairUse Wizard can directly work on ISO files?

FUW does work directly with a ISO file of a ripped DVD. In the first screen, add a file name and tell it what folder you want to use, then hit 'Next' and in the next screen you will be given the option of selecting a DVD drive to read from or selecting a ISO of a DVD to convert. It will only convert DVDs and DVD ISOs. It will only work with disc drives or ISOs. You don't need to mount the ISO.

I have the pay version, so I don't know what capabilities the LE version doesn't have.

EDIT: So I looked at the FAQ:

What is the difference between the Light Edition and the Full Edition of FairUse Wizard ?
Light Edition has the folowing limitations :
    - no iPod Video encoding
    - encoding target file size limited to 700 MB
    - no range selection
    - no quality based encoding
The LE version also doesn't take full advantage of multiple CPU cores.

    Your iso movie must be:
1/ image file if it is in your hard drive.
2/ on dvd disc if you will run the dvd-rom, and this dvd does not have copyright encrypted.

If you want chapters, just check the chapter box.

xvid is suppoted by LE version.
I bought the full version for $30.00, and I am very happy with it. I wish FU and handle other format in the future.

With those limitations, I don't see why someone wouldn't simply use Handbrake or some other free GUI. (700MB, wut.)

    I agree.
The only advantage of FUW would be the possibility to do visual cropping preview before encoding.
For the rest, give me Handbrake any day.

Thanks redwudz! I tried it with LE and no go, but I talked to friend who told me that you can use an unmounted .iso with the paid version for $30 US, so I may do that.

Does Handbrake have a function for converting unmounted .ISOs too? I love AutoGK, but have tons of ripped ISOs that I need to convert to xvid, and I wanted to skip a step to save time, but only if I can keep the quality as good as AutoGK.

    Thanks again.

The freeware 2.8 version of FUW has the capability of opening DVD ISOs. It's on the FUW toolpage. http://download.videohelp.com/download/FU-Setup28.exe FUW does have some encoding adjustments for quality or size.

    I don't think so.
However, if you have a large collection of ISOs, you can use a mounting tool like Alcohol 120% or any other such tool, that allows you to mount several drives.
You can go ahead and mount for example 20 ISOs, then add them all in Handbrake's queue for batch encoding.

Thanks redwudz and usta!!! I'm going to try mounting several ISOs and batch encoding with Handbrake. I'll start in the am and when I get home from work all of the conversions should be done. Can you mount multiple ISOs with daemon tools?

Ok, I see daemon only does 4 with my version and Alcohol 52% does 6 with the free version. That works for me! Thanks guys!
