    Please Help with this:

I have imputs from 3 sources
1.NTSC VHS tapes of camcorder footage and TV prog.
    2. NTSC DV 's
    3. PAL DV 's
I need to begin edit and then burn to DVD's: Some Pal and others NTSC .

The site is great but got me confused [never done any conversions]:

What is the simplest way for non tech guy to go ?
Do I convert first to the output needed ? or edit and then convert ?
Is there one [or 2?] steps that can do it all???
What programs ? Thanks a lot

  2. If you're using an NLE like Vegas or Premiere to edit, then just edit and output all your videos to the format you need and author the DVD with your application of choice. If you're only authoring, then all the videos have to be converted to the same format first. There are some excellent guides here on doing that. Check out this thread on doing a PAL to NTSC conversion.

That will be rather low quality, and some parts will look much worse due to mediocre conversion.

If you're in a PAL country, and thus probably have hardware that can play both PAL and NTSC, you can make a DVD with both formats.

This is against the spec, but it works in practice.

I use GfD (it warns me I'm breaking standards, but does not force me to convert) and do this routinely.

Of course, you couldn't do this professionally, but if it's just for you and your family, if it works, that's all that matters. You wil see each feature at its native resolution and frame rate.
