TDK HiFi - it came in a greenish grey plastic box and ran very smoothly. In fact I bought some new ones (old 90's stock) last week and they are just as good now. Panasonic and Fuji 'Beridox' were also good quality from back in the day. I still use VHS for recording TV to watch later as it is so easy to whizz past 'coming up later', 'previously', 'the story so far' and the ads. I'm a dab hand with the visual cue button

i was using TDK HiFi whatever speed i used the tapes still looked good in 99 my tapes were shows like the reality show "On Scene: Emergency Response" the drama "China Beach" and lots of football games

It started in the early 90's with the grey plastic case (good quality) then by the end of the 90's it changes to a blue card box design. By the early 2000's it was discontinued. The older variant was better quality as the tape was better made and the plastic case protected it better.

Take a look at http://www.videocassettes.ru/catalog02.htm which lists all the TDK's. I see mine are from 1992, the 1989-1992 range having different packaging. I have some of the 1989 HS cassettes and they work fine for me still in 2015.

T-150s were duplicator stock for pre-recorded movies / videos and as such were fair to good quality media at best. Retail T-150s were duplicator overstock usually sold by off-brand labels.

Why would you want to record on a rapidly dying medium (magnetic media)? While properly stored media (cool, dry, dark, constant temp) has been proven to last decades, the rush is on to preserve magnetic media digitally. Even a perfect tape can be destroyed in a single pass through a malfuctioning VCR.

I'm guessing you're utilizing the "analog hole" (i.e. recording encrypted transmissions on analog equipment). If so, there are far better ways around that, discussed in multiple threads on this forum.

my thinking is that you use slp for sports but you use sp for regular tv shows or movies i will give examples of a SP tape and one example of a slp

nfl game: have 3 to 4 hours left on tape

The difference between S-VHS and VHS is quite obvious with this detailed recording. I bet back in the day with early single CCD sensor cameras or even single tube cameras the difference wasn't that obvious.

The tape I used was a brand new Panasonic S-VHS from the early 1990's and it was blank. Unfortunately the latest HD camcorders don't have an S-Video output so I used a slightly older model SD camcorder. If I were to have an HD camcorder with such an output I may even be able to coax a little more from the S-VHS.
