    Hi All,
I have an AVI file which, when I play on my DVD player, I cannot get any sound though the picture is fine. Other AVI files work fine. When I checked the Properties of the files I find that the audio bitrates are different. The AVIs' that will play have a bitrate of 128kbps and the ones that wont play have a bitrate of 192kbps. I am assuming that my DVD player, for some reason, does not like the 192 audio bitrate. Please, can anyone tell me how to convert the audio bitrate of an AVI file? What software is best to do this and how to use it. Or could there be another reason why I'm not getting sound? I'm not a very techie minded person and any help would be gratefully recieved.
    Best wishes
    Ray

It could be VBR vs CBR encoding. It could be a corrupt file. It could be any number of things.

Start by posting a mediainfo tree output of the file in question.

If you do want to re-encode the audio, load the file into virtualdub. Click on Video->Direct Stream Copy. This will stop the video being changed. Then click on Audio -> Full Processing, then Audio -> Compression. Select CBR MP3 128 kbps. Save a new avi and test it.
