Well, the camera that our school bought has an sdhc card. The problem with it is that it is a mod file. My sony vegas pro does not seem to recognize this and the canon program does not work on my vista 64bit computer. What would you do? Would you take the camera back? Is there any easy fix? Another problem is that during the game there ends up to be more than 99 bits so when I try to use it in other programs it cuts it off at 99. HELP.

Most .mod files are MPEG-2 video and AC3 audio.

You can use mpg2cut2 or avidemux to re-wrap them into a MPEG-PS container (i.e. .mpg) , and Vegas should import them

Not sure what you mean by "99bits?" Can you clarify?

It's might cutting the video into sections because of FAT32 file system. You can append sections in mpg2cut2 or avidemux as well

Mpeg-Streamclip can also repackage MOD files into mpeg-2 PS files for you.

Every time the camera starts and stops it is a separate piece. There were 127 film clips.

Tsunami DVD Author will do a direct import, as will Video ReDo. Neither are free. Both will handle multiple videos as imported from JVC Everio .mod files. If it is a JVC, have you tried with the original software (if packaged with the camera)? I didn't like the Producer software included with mine, and prefer TDA - being a long time user and too lazy to change.

It is the Canon FS200. The software that came with the camera does not really work the vista 64bit. I am going to take the Canon back if I can't find an easy way to make this work. Is there a camera out there that has an external mic output? That is why they bought the FS200, it had an external mic output and it was inexpensive.

what version of vegas do you have? vegas 8&9 here both import the canon hf .mod test file i have fine. do you have a small ~ 50mb file you could upload to a file hosting site, i'd try it for you.

here's a tool that can cut samples out of most video files.

This is normal behaviour. Virtually every camera does this

You can append them with the software mentioned before, or as aedipuss seems to have it working natively in vegas which then you could also import the clips onto your timeline

    Vegas 8.1
When I would put it in the file it would not even recognize it. Do I have to do something to vegas pro to make it see it?
No time at the moment but maybe later.

Yes, I understand this but with a tape it is no problem. With an SDHC card some of my programs that would recognize it would only take 99 files.

Ok, lets see what all the experts think. If you were going to use a flash memory card and if made mod files what would you use to convert those to mpeg? The program that canon sent with the fs200 is not very good and only works with my XP machine and on that is does not work great. Is there a program out there that will let you burn directly to dvd from the camera to the dvd burner in the camera. I see a couple listed here but wonder if there is one that does the burn also. Thanks.

The crazy thing is my vista machine won't recognize my canon cam. I plug it in and no usb device shows up. It won't read what is in the card. I think I am going to trade this dang thing in.

Hello all. We are a small nonprofit organization that teaches media literacy & production to middle school students. We're looking to purchase some cameras and the canon fs200 seems to be a good budget camera with the ability to plug in an external microphone. But, I am a little worried about this MOD file issue and the ability for our students to work directly with the files or easily and quickly convert.

Would someone here who has the fs200 be willing to send me a small test file or two so that I can be sure I can play with it on our editing stations.

    I would be so appreciative!

I did not like it. I will stay with mini dv for now until they make a file that is more user friendly.
