Welcome to our forums. You are correct. That adapter won't work.

Newer computers, especially laptops, often lack S-Video ports, and every few months people ask about these devices. There are several existing threads on the subject. Here is one example: https://forum.videohelp.com/topic345015.html

There is a Google site search in the top right-hand corner of VideoHelp pages. Few subjects have not come up before, and using the Google site search may save you the trouble of asking a question.

ok thanks for the answer ..mm... i cant use that damn cable, so just a few videocards can handle that kind of cable? the fact is that im going to buy a new video card for my desktop pc, a simple low profile video card, so since my tv is only capable of s-video and rca connections i think my only option is to buy a video card with s-video right?

Buying a new video card with S-Video out is your best option for picture quality .

The only other option, a scan converter (connected between your existing VGA port and the TV), would not give a picture that was of comparable quality. A scan converter would also likely be more expensive than many of the video cards that could provide a TV-out port compatible with your TV.

I think a video card with HDMI-out but not S-Video-out would only be useful to you if you had a TV with HDMI connections.

I have seen converters for sale that have HDMI-in and component-out (for use with HDTVs that don't have a HDMI connection) or S-Video-out and composite-out, but they are not cheap (about $200 US or more). I wouldn't buy one in your position.
