  1. My problem is as follows:
I use SmartRipper>DVD2AVI>TMPGEnc (all newest versions)

I've tried about 5 different movies when encoding SVCDs, and I get the same effect every time I do one. Flickery crappy video when anything moves--especially when the video is panning or anything is moving fast on-screen. I've tried using the bitrate calculator with VBR and CBR, and VBR/CBR at a couple various custom bitrate settings. I know its not my DVD player because Ive played many professional SVCDs and they are incredibly smooth/good quality. I've also messed around with some options in TMPGEnc (like DC component precision, Motion Search Precision, added "sharpen image" under advanced, and I've tried a couple different framrates).. Also, i tried a couple different options in dvd2avi, but I thought that the problem was in the encoding, so i dont bother too much with that.
If i burn any more coasters, ill break myself. HELP!

ps - SVCD templates have almost the same outcome.

You're using the wrong field order. Try to chance that and see if it helps.

  3. I had the same problem with "Dream Theater - Metropolis 2000" and it didn't help to change the field order (don't ask me why) so I used the deinterlace filter in virtualdub to blend the two fields together, and that worked just fine (but I lost some sharpness in the picture but since it is a live gig, I don't think it can be noticed so much)....

  4. Well, I changed the field order... to upper field first, that didnt work so I just decided to go a different way; DVD2SVCD.. Not only did this solve my problem, but it's way more easy having all the best programs you need in one configurable interface. Anyone who wants to make svcds with awesome quality, with out all the work, definately check this out!

I used to have th esame exact problem till I started using this guide http://www.doom9.org/mpg/tmpg-main.htm the only thing I do diffrent is when I encode I use 2-pass vbr and instead of using NERO I use vcdimager then CDR-win.

    Hope this helps
