Greetings. This is my first time that I'm buying a HDTV, & I'm thinking about buying one for games, as well as Blu-Ray movies & for watching TV. I went on Amazon, & I came across where there are some HDTV's that are in 1080p & that are in 240 Hz. I found one of them here:

Samsung LN40B750 40-Inch 1080p 240Hz LCD HDTV with Charcoal Grey Touch of Color.

Should I go for it? Help would be appreciated. Thanks!

240 Hz - marketing gimmick really

led samsungs are pretty nice for the most part, other models i would stay away from .....

i would get a panasonic lcd - and never mind about the specs - though get one with 1080p native , 120hz or 240hz or none - doesnt really mater

for gaming you would want fast refresh (240hz is not the refresh rate)

yeah I wonder what you would really gain from the 240hz..although we supposedly can't detect anything over 60hz, I suppose I understand the 120hz pitch since it is a nice even multiple of 24 and 30, but anything else as I understand it would be indistinguishable.

Thanks a lot, guys. You have been very helpful! I'm now considering setting my eyes on this TV here:

    Samsung UN40B7000 40-Inch 1080p 120Hz LED HDTV.

I now see what you're saying, as I probably won't be able to tell a difference between 120Hz & 240 Hz. Again, thanks.

the samsung 7000 series looks good - on really white scenes you will notice some dark areas in the corners - but not noticeable usually

I saw panasonic bragging about 600hz in an ad.

The 240hz set I saw, a Toshiba, actually looked worse than a 60hz set.

toshiba has gone down in quality (picture and build) so much lately it is an embarrassment to toshiba

i personally do not like 240 - it looks artificial
