I'm about to rip 1000s of hours of VHS tapes to digital format.. I'm going use a Panasonic AG-1980P -> Canon DV cam -> Ubuntu (dvgrab) -> AVIDEMUX..

I'm going to use AVIDEMUX to do bulk editing and some processing (noise cleanup, deinterlacing, DIVX conversion, etc)..

Here is my question: Is that the best tool? I've been using it for a while and I really like it, even more than VirtualDub.. I just don't see a lot of people raving about it so I'm 2nd guessing my choice now.

  2. Best for in terms of what?

If you like it and it does everything you need, then that's all that matters

I think it's a great tool, and you don't have much choice if you are on linux. If you have access to windoze, Vdub may has more available plugins but you might not need them for what you are doing. Both can make use of avisynth, but it's a bit easier with vdub.

I'm going to use it for basic / bulk editing of raw DV files and them some simple processing.. Deinterlacing is the processing I'm most concerned about.

If deinterlacing quality is a concern, then avisynth methods will give you better quality; but the high quality methods are very slow to process. Both vdub and avidemux have yadif built in, which yields decent quality, but good speed
