  1. This is my first time ever trying to do this so bear with me and sorry in advance for the noob questions. I have a mkw file that i would like to cover to m2tx . The file is 4.4 gigs but when i converit to m2ts it becomes 4.8gigs. the only bluray player i have is a ps3 and i've read that ps3 play m2tx files. I 'm currently tyring to fit this disc into a 4.7 gig disc. Is there any way to compress the file so it can fit a dvd-5 disc instead of dvd-9. i am surrently using tsMuxeR.

    Thanks

  2. Transport stream overhead is larger than .mkv container. You would have to re-encode it using a lower bitrate. You will lose quality. You could use uncropmkv, or ripbot264 for example

    multiAVCHD can probably also shrink.

Or maybe use mkv2vob, it makes a vob for the ps3.

Is there anything at the beginning or end of the video that you could chop off to save some size? Seems like you could gain the needed .4 - .5 gig you need to adjust. No re-encoding needed.
    Have a good one,

If you're starting with a .mkv file, you can use mkvtoolnix to split a file (and thus remove the credits.) If you need a detailed walkthrough, I can try to write you one but basically you need to open the file with mkvmerge GUI and look for a tab that says something about splitting (don't have it installed on the computer I'm writing this from so I can't double check at the moment.) In that tab there should be an option for split after a certain size or split at a certain timecode, so you could watch the movie and write down the hh:mms (hours:minuteseconds) where the movie ends and the credits begin and you could set it to split at that timecode. Let it split into two files then delete the smaller one (the credits) and you should be left with your movie minus the credits. If there's something at the beginning of the movie, you could cut that out, too, in a similar way if you still need to get the file size down to a little bit smaller.

I use tsmuxer to demux the mkv then eac3to to reencode the audio at a lower bitrate. Then remux to blu ray.

tsMuxer has an option to split/cut. If your movie has an intro/credits, you can just cut them out by entering the start/end time codes.

The PS3 only supports AC3 or LPCM in the m2ts container. You'll have to either burn to AVCHD or reencode the audio to AC3 640kbps or if your movie has a DTS audio track.
