I own a Malata DVP-500p player and I seriously need some help !!!

I recently bought a new TV so I wanted to hook up my old "all region" Malata player to it. Since the TV is HD, I decided to plug my player using the component outputs (there are 3 kinds of outputs on this Malata player: video, s-video and component).

So I went in the player's menu and changed the output settings to "component". Now I might have done this too quickly (my mistake I know...) but if I can remember correctly, the menu then asked what kind of component it was. I didn't know so I randomly selected one of the options and then...bye bye! The player switched to a new (wrong) output setting and since then, there is no way I can see a picture.

I tried to plug the player using s-video or a simple basic video cable, but nothing works. The player is locked to the new setting and refuse to show any image via other ports. And of course, how can I access the menu if I'm unable to SEE it !!!

So guys, if there's one of you out there who also own a DVP-500p player, and could blindly guide me inside the menu to reset the settings to default or change the output settings from "component" to "video", I would gladly appreciate !

Step by step instructions would be perfect (ex: Press MENU / press right arrow 2 times / press ENTER / press down arrow 4 times, etc...)

    Thanks !!!

    Hi,

I don't have your DVD player but this has happened to me with 2 or 3 DVD players along the way. Usually the manuals have a set of buttons to press, just as you suggested. This happened to me when the player was set for a progressive display on an interlaced CRT TV. Check the manual closely for some sort of code to fix the display.

Have you tried searching the manufacturer's website for a copy/PDF of the manual?

Another thing to try, but there's no guarantee it'll work: some DVD players can be 'reset' to factory settings by simply unplugging them from the power (wall socket) and leaving them unplugged for at least half an hour (some prefer to leave them unplugged overnight). Might be worth a try.

I tried to search for an online manual, but the manufacturer doesn't produce home DVD players anymore, and doesn't seem to bother having an online support either.

I also kept the player unplugged for more than a week, but didn't work.

Thanks for trying to help though, I really appreciate.

Hmm... well, I've been doing a little searching, and found this post on another forum: http://forums.dvdfile.com/standard-definition-hardware/32339-need-help.html

You might try what SidcupMartin posted in reply #7, though since it looks like the OP has roughly the same player, and it reportedly didn't work for the OP... At the end of the post is a link to what may be a Malata-specific forum; maybe they'd have a better idea, as well. Or at least a working reset code.

Edit: Hmm... the Nerd-Out forums. Interesting. I used to check those a long time ago for an Apex player. But they don't seem to be active at the moment.

Well, just like decaffish said on that forum, the DVP-500P's remote doesn't have any "clear" button, so there is no way I can reset my player with that method...

Maybe I'm the only one in north america who still uses an old DVP-500 Malata player...

Thanks a lot anyways Ai Haibara!

Try resetting the player by keeping the power button(on the player) pressed for more than 5 seconds.

Keep the "STOP" button pressed during 5 seconds or more.
(works for many LGs at least --- it doesn't hurt to try).

I pressed the Power button for more than 5 seconds, so as the Stop button.

    Not working...

Surely someone out there still have one of those players...

El Heggunte and johns0, thanks anyways!

No, but I have their model 700, which may be similar. Also have the manual for it. However, these are in another location, and I won't be there until late next week. If you can hang in there awhile, I'll see if I can discover anything useful.
When in Las Vegas, don't miss the Pinball Hall of Fame Museum http://www.pinballmuseum.org/ -- with over 150 tables from 6+ decades of this quintessentially American art form.
