  1. Hey guys and gals,
    I need some help here.
I downloaded a 4CD SVCD Movie last night. Great.
All 4 CDs were a set of like 60 RAR files, unrared all of 'em without a problem. I now have 4 .CUE files and 4 .BIN files.
That's where my problem is now...
I tried burning the BIN (CUE) files with CDRWin 3.8D. The first time it gave me a WRITE error and made a coaster. The second time it burnt successfully, or so it said. The CD was not playable either in my DVD Player, nor in 2 PCs I have tried with players PowerDVD, MicroDVD, nor Windows Media Player. I copied the MPG file from the CD to my HDD and still couldn't play it.
I then decided to test the movie (make sure it was a good encode). I opened the BIN with ISOBuster and extracted it, the MPG file played just fine and was really HIGH quality.
Now that I had the MPG (SVCD) extracted I figured I could simply burn it with Nero, so far I tried VCD and SVCD Compliant or not and sometimes it burns, sometimes doesn't but even if it burns it I can't play it.

I even tried opening the CUE file with Nero, but for some reason when I do it thinks the ISO is 1600MB large so it won't burn it.

I'm lost and confused here, need help.

Any clue will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Best Regards,

    Ian

  2. it is possible that your DVD player won't play SVCD's. i had that same problem with mine.

i just ran the mpeg through the simple-Multiplex option in TMPGEnc. use simple multiplex and make sure you choose 'mpeg 1' in the drop down menu at the top. select your output file name and start it. it won't take too long to do.

when it is done, load nero and select VCD from the wizard. uncheck the box that says to create a complaint VCD... or something like that. and burn

i know these instructions are vauge, but i am doing them from memory. i have only done this once and it worked great.

    good luck.

    Mark

PS: you will need the mpeg 2 plugin for TMPGEnc

  3. hmm...
But aren't all CD-ROMs / DVD-ROMs able to play VCDs and SVCDs??

I'm not even sure if my DVD Player plays VCDs as this is my first attempt. But I thought all PC DVDs would wokr in any drive.

    Correct me if I'm wrong.

    Thanks for your reply.

    Best Regards,
    Ian

Am I correct in assuming that the 4 cd svcd set you downloaded was Lord of the Rings?

If so - you will need PowerDVD v4 to view it on your PC.

Works for me - and the picture is sweeeet!!

  5. Try to use a program called FIREBURNER. That movie could be done with DVD2SVCD and so that file should be open correctly with this software.

  6. The info about LoTR says it was done using 2pass with TMPGEnc - so there to all the CCE fans =)

...but at any rate, I burned the cue file with Nero without problem. Maybe something is wrong with your download?

  7. do you have a decoder card in your system? dvd-rom is just cd-rom without it...

  8. PsychNet, CD and DVD drives will play any type of VCD/SVCD/Data/Audio or whatever, you are correct about that part, however, to play the movie itself, that depends more on your PC's software capabilities.

SVCD uses MPEG2, and that is not included in the system and WMP is NOT capable of playing that without proper installed codecs, PowerDVD v3.0 does not automaticly identify SVCD, but v4.0 can! or you can use WinDVD instead.

resnullius, that is completly inaccurate, a Decoder card is not required for any VCD or SVCD or even DVD's, most Display Cards today are very well capable in playing back content, and also, you CANNOT play DVD media in a regular CD drive, so I would hardly call a DVD just a CD drive

A Decoder card is great if you have a slow PC and you want to have TV out in high quality, i've got a Hollywood Plus card, and I haven't used it even once since my system is strong enough to play DVD movies without it.
