I'm using Sony Vegas 9.0b x86. I want to render my videos using the FFDShow Encoder (h.264) but there seems to be a compatibility problem. Vegas crashes as soon as I hit render or even try to configure FFDShow pressing the configure button. Any help? Footage is FRAPS recorded.

I want to use FFDShow as all of the other rendering options are painfully slow. VirtualDub for example renders at 90+ fps using FFDShow Encoder, while Vegas options give out about 15fps same settings and everything.

i've been using vegas through several versions and have never found it to be slow at rendering. it normally uses all 4 cores of my quad nicely.

i haven't tried in a while but to use an external encoder you used to need to use debugmode frameserver to send the video out. you'll be moaning about really glacierly slow if you do try it.

  3. If you care about quality, don't use ffdshow as the encoder to encode to h.264. It is using a very ancient buggy build with very poor quality.

Either use debugmode as suggested, or render a lossless intermediate so you can use the proper x264CLI encoder (you can use front ends like megui, ripbot264, xvid4psp, handbrake for example)
