edDv, it's me again. We have been in a long debate about what camera we needed to get. I was told last night that these certain things need to be on it. I am not the one taking the video but the one that gets to do a lot editing etc. with it though. Anyway I was told it has to have an external mic output. They said because other people will be using it they want it to be flash memory or hdd. They don't want to buy anymore tapes. They also want a quick burn option like some sony handycams have. They say some of the people using don't want anymore than to burn it to dvd and that is it. I know edDv what you are going to say but as they said I am not paying for it they are. If that be the case what would you use? You don't know how thankful I am to help someone like you to help me.

If they want flash memory, they need to budget higher than $700. 1/3" sensor Canon models sell for more than $1000. You will also need to budget $129 for Cineform NeoScene for your Vegas Pro and/or a $250 version 9 upgrade. Then you need to budget Level 4 flash cards (78Min) at ~$32 each. Also hard drives for backup.

It seems they control the money, they need to cough up another $700 to $1000 to get a full solution plus the added labor for conversion.

It's never easy. I worked at a place where I couldn't even get them to buy some headphones and replacement PC keyboards.

  7. If they don't care about image quality, just buy a casual consumer model. If they're looking at convenience factors and budget, then something's gotta give. Sanyo Xacti VPC-FH1 @ $343, for example.

edit: or maybe one of the Sony DVD-Handycams would be more suitable, but those have very limited space/recording time (since they burn to 1.3GB DVDs), and are SD only AFAIK.

When they buy what they want, play dumb and ask them to demo how it is supposed to work including the edit.
