Media Player Classic is working OK, but it changes from Aero to Default skin... :/

Use a different output module. VMR9 or EVR. View -> Options -> Playback -> Output

Since it works in MPC, these findings suggest problem specifically with WMP11 , not a systemwide directshow problem

Maybe try remove WMP11 in add/remove programs from the control panel, then reinstall

But MPC has its own AVI source filter, Xvid decoder, and even output renderer (all of which can be enabled or disabled). It might be using hardly any DirectShow services. And WMP11 isn't much more than a front end for DirectShow, as far as playing video is concerned.

Are you talking about the internal filters? (source filters and transform filters)?

I have everything disabled (I only use MPC for the purpose of directshow testing), I'm not sure what the default configuration is (But I guess I shouldn't assume that everyone else has all the internal filters disabled )
