I have an 85 minute DVD rip which has about 30 seconds of "intro material" carried over from the VOB, want to delete that 30 seconds from the final .avi file.

Loaded it up in VirtualDub, marked the start of the file and the correct frame at 30 point something seconds in, selected fast processing and resaved the .avi with no apparent problems.

But upon playback I find that the final 105 frames of the intro material remain there just before the opening of the program proper.

I've tried three times to mark those 105 frames for deletion and cut them, using the instructions within the help file (which have always worked for me in the past), but every time I open up the resulting file for playback - they're still there!!!

What am I doing wrong - thanks!!!

after marking start and end of what you want to remove-go to edit-delete
    then encode the video

  3. In Direct Stream Copy mode VirtualDub will only start a saved segment on a key frame. If you mark-in on a non key frame VirtualDub will start saving at the first key frame before the mark-in point -- presumably the beginning of the movie in your case.

Put VirtualDub in Fast Recompress mode with Smart Rendering. Set the compression to the same codec as used in your AVI file, with similar settings. When you save VirtualDub will reencode the first GOP starting at your mark-in point. The rest of the video will be Direct Stream Copied.

Thanks to you both, changing the re-encode settings worked perfectly.
