Which would you consider the best SVCD encoder? I'm ripping DVDs using SmartRipper, onto DVD2AVI then encode:

    I have three in mind:
    TMPEG
    Xing MPEG Encoder
    CinemaCraft Encoder

I've tried TMPEG, and I'm not really happy with the final quality (from Bug's Life, you can see blocks of colour even at full CBR) My version of Xing Encoder only does VCD and not SVCD. If anyone could err.. 'help me out' with Xing Encoder or CinemaCraft, I'd really appreciate it, (ADSL connection). I'd assume the two non-free encoders would be better quality? Thanks in advance!!

  2. I chose tmpgenc for 2 major reasons
    1-
I'm more familiar with it and i have used cce which is the 2nd reason-
    2-
CCE doesnt have as many options of "tinkering" that i have noticed vs tmpgenc 2.52 plus

So u got blocks in your movie, huh
Dont use cbr for one, hehe

If u got a fast pc, use new type 2 pass, slower pc, use cq_vbr

Need settings, im me on AIM- shizzzon i'll make your movie have no blocks when watching it!

Sean he said he used full cbr, I assume this means ~2.6Mbits. 2-pass vbr won't really help any.

Also by frameserving through avisynth or vdub to cce you get more and arguably better "tinkering" options than TMPGenc.

Thats not to say cce is necessarily better than TMPGenc for svcd. I believe it is but I know others will disagree. If you have access to cce then by all means give it a shot, I'll bet you'll like it better than TMPGenc.

But neile please do not request illegal versions of software on this site. You obviously knew it was against the rules because of the way you worded your request, that makes it even worse.

  5. 4 pass vbr using DVD2SVCD (and CCE)

Best one there is and the easiest!

I am hooked on it.. it creates great quality vids and quick!!

  6. i think TMPGEnc is a great encoder but i dont just rely on bitrate alone. i open the advanced tab in the settings button and tweak setting... i am capping television so i dont have dvd rips that i start with but i get no blocks by using the filters.

lots of people tell me the algorithym of the encoder makes a difference but i just dont see it, the way i see it is the options that the encoders offer are the distinguishing characteristics that make one better than another.

i vote for TMPGEnc for the varied and powerfull filters it offers.
    peace out,

  8. i totally agree with dumwaldo

I have used cce before but am new to it at that time

TMPGenc has the oprions and that is what i'll use for a long time
