  1. noob. I looked through alot of posts and found alot of useful info, but havn't seen my problem yet. I'm ripping my movies and converting them to .avi, using Auto GK (75%). I plan to stream the video to my ps3 wireless using WMP 11. I've been successfull. I've done only one movie so far. I have it on my desktop. The problem is when I put the same file on my external HD which is connected to the desktop, I can't get the ps3 to recognize it. WMP is set to monitor the external HD, and the file is discovered by it. It just won't show up on the ps3. I've tried puting the file in a folder and not in one; however, the results are the same. What am I missing. Again, I know the file is good, because I can play it from the desktop on the ps3. Thanks.

Plug the drive into the PS3. Move to the drive on the X-bar, then press the triangle button. Select Show All (or similar) from the menu. You should be able to see everything on the drive now.

  3. Connected the external hd to ps3 and it didn't recognize it. I've seen hds need to be in fat 32 format. If I format the hd to fat32, how would that affect the operation with pc? Is fat 32 a format recognized generally?

Fat32 is universally recognised. Use SwissKnife to format it if it is larger drive

  5. Swissknife worked great. PS3 recognizes hd when plugged into it, but still doesn't recognize video on hd. Would greatly appreciate other suggestions?

Once the HDD is recognised, select it with the controller, then press the Triangle button to bring up the options menu. Select Display All and you should be able to see all files on the HDD.

There is a PS3 folder structure that will make it all get recognised as soon as you connect. Basically just move all your videos to a sub-folder called Videos. Music goes into a subfolder called Music etc.

More reading here : http://ps3explained.com/advanced/folder-structure/comment-page-1/ and elsewhere if you google.

There is a limited number of levels you can go before the PS3 stops automatically seeing them, but using Display All shows everything to whatever depth you have them
