  1. im brand new to this so bear with me,
before i even get into burning a vcd, this is what i want to do,...

i have recently downloaded an mpeg music video and the 1st thing i want to do is replace the horrible audio quality.

is it possible to take my own good quality mp3 file and replace the existing audio track that is in the mpeg video?

if so, please give me some direction on what software i could use to do such a thing, and if i need to convert my existing files to something else before beginning the process.

    thanks,
    deadliner

Demultiplex the .mpg with TMPG http://www.vcdhelp.com/bbmpegedit.htm

Convert your own .mp3 to .mp2 with BeSweet http://dspguru.doom9.net/

Multiplex the videostream (.m1v or .m2v) with the new .mp2 with bbMPEG http://www.vcdhelp.com/bbmpegedit.htm

Truman: I posted this question in another forum, but you seem to know what youre doing: how do you make sure, that the end result is synchron?
I mean, everytime I convert a wav to mpx (x=2 or 3), the encoder adds about 1 sec of silence at the beginning so the audio is shifted by this amount in time.

Which audio encoder do you use? However, if it is adding 1 second of silence at the beginning, you can correct this by multiplexing with bbMPEG. At the program stream settings tab you can define the audio delay. In that case you have to change e.g. audio delay 180 to 1180.
