    Hi all,
I used my DSLR on the weekend to capture a sunset in Rio Del Mar, CA. I did continuous 5 second exposures at 4272 x 2848.
I dropped them into Premiere at 10 fps (next time I'll expose for 2 seconds so that I can drop it in at 24fps).
At 10fps it played at a good rate. Sunset took 30seconds.

I exported to 1920x1080/30p and I'm very happy with it for a proof of concept.

My question is.... Is the technology too young for me to be storing it at Digital Cinema ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_cinema#Digital_capture ) resolutions? I have enough pixels to do "4K" - (4096×2160) but so what? - It's not as if I have anyway to play it. The highest resolution screen I have is my PC at 1920x1200. - Having said that it was nice to have the resoution because in the dark I ended up setting the camera up with a 3degree tilt and too far zoomed out. With the extra pixels I was able to rotate and scale for a more pleasing frame.

Does anyone know if the FFDshow project is supporting MJPEG2000 soon? (That's the codec used in Digital Cinema distribution).

Should I just leave them as JPEGs in a folder on my PC until 2K and 4K resolution TVs come out for the customer/home market?

Here's a raw frame (see the rotation - oops!)

  2. For playing, you can look into getting a 4K projector - but still quite pricey right now

ah yerrr. that ain't gonna happen right now
I'm having a hard enough time talking the wife into letting me get a Canon T1i DSLR body so that I can have a second body so that I don't have to jump from lens to lens. It also has the great extra feature that it captures beautiful video at 1280x720/30p or 1920x1080/10p. 'gotta love big f/2.8 glass.

I put it downsized on YouTube

Downsized to HD (1920x1080 which YouTube then turns into 1280x720)
