Hi Ozzy,
Have tried that, all too easy one would think ..however.. that does not uninstall it.
Thanks for your response, appreciated. -
I think you may have to go into the registry to make some changes to really get rid of them. Not really recommended if you don't know your way around there. Be sure you back up the registry before you make any changes there.
I'm guessing there is a line there that causes the folders to be re-created after you delete them. If you find it and it's set as '1', you may be able to set it as '0' and fix the problem.
When I ran XP, I was able to keep WMP from showing up at all in the context menus, but it wasn't simple. MS integrates most of that stuff fairly deeply in the OS and the best you can do most times is to disable it, not remove it entirely. -
For netmeeting

WMP 11 (you didn't say the version

Zeroth step: run the command «regsvr32 /u wmpshell.dll»
First step: write down the names of the files you want to get rid of;
2nd: Go to the folder "%windir%\system32\dllcache" and
delete the backup copies of the chosen files;
3rd: delete the original unwanted files;
4th: there are no guarantees that this procedure will not harm the
(always dubious) stability of the operating system itself. -
There are several reasons why WMP and NetMeeting keep reinstalling.
As previously mentioned, MS deeply integrates these functions within their operating system.
My suggestion;
First; Open the folders for WMP and NetMeeting and copy the names of all of the separate files to notepad or somewhere else for future reference.
In lieu of that, take a screenshot of those files and save to documents.
These are the file names you will be searching for following the manual uninstallation of WMP and NetMeeting.
Second; turn System Restore off.
Third; boot into safe mode and manually delete each and every file in the WMP and NetMeeting folders.
(The uninstallers in Control Panel "Add or Remove Programs" will be non-functional when in safe mode- thus the manual uninstall process).
Fourth; run search, first using the term (without the quotation marks) "Windows Media Player".
Delete everything you find.
Repeat this process for each and every name you copied in step one.
Fifth; repeat the manual search process for each and every name, this time in the registry. Delete what you find.
IMPORTANT: The registry gives you no second chance.
As previously advised, back up the registry prior to deleting ANYTHING.
Following step five, reboot in normal mode.
Before turning System Restore back on (assuming you want it on), clean up any remaining file and folder fragments using CCleaner or something similar.
You should now be rid of both applications.
NOTE: I have successfully removed NetMeeting as well as Windows Presentation Foundation, the .NET Framework, and several other applications I know I don't need.
I have never removed WMP.
Good luck !THREADKILLER !

Do these really need to be removed? Why not hide the icons/folders, delete start menu shortcuts, and forget about them? I do that.

Anyone trying to delete media player for an alternative reason, forget it, it will only end up causing unwanted problems.
Thank you all for your comments, appreciated.
