Never thought of doing this before very recently!

Can you download from the original source other than u tube?

Sorry for asking but it is not obvious to me

    What's the best method/tool?

    Thanks,
    Bruce

Youtube apparently changed (again) the way their higher quality clips where marked, which tripped a few downloaders up (Video Download Helper was one). Most have corrected this issue by now.

If the free tools fail, there is always a commercial solution like Replay Media Catcher.

I want to thank you gentlemen for solving the problem.

In this case since HD video was involved, the link for keephd.com was fantastic and did a nice of job to the extent possible.

Best Regards for another job well done.

    Thanks,
    Bruce

    Hello.
Keepvid and keephd are good. The firefox extension is also useful to download many videos on sites (even if the website does not allows downloads, most of the times you will get the download link!!)
But I also have another solution.
I found a bookmark somewhere on the net. It works wonders in my firefox 3.

    javascript:if(document.location.href.match(/http:\/\/[a-zA-Z\.]*youtube\.com\/watch/)){document.location.href='http://www.youtube.com/get_video?fmt='+(isHDAvailable?'22':'18')+'&video_ id='+swfArgs['video_id']+'&t='+swfArgs['t']}

Keep in mind that it will always download the HIGHEST quality available for that video. Sometimes It might be a problem, because one wants a video in HQ and it will download in HD. But if you just want to download in the highest quality available, this is it!
    I use it a lot!

Too bad I can't find a way to download videos in FLV HQ. They can be played by adding "&FMT=6" to youtube url, but I had no luck downloading them. The firefox extension downloads the file, but it is most of the time, unreadable.

Yes, Replay Media Catcher is an excellent option.
For only $40, it's a lot faster and easier than trying to figure out if the latest downloader site is working.

Keepvid has given me some trouble too, but I still use it for Youtube when I can.
It's all the non-Youtube sites where having some like RMC is such a valuable tool.

There's a much easier (and free) way to download hi-def videos from YouTube. Just find the video you want, then type the word "kick" in front of youtube.

    For example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZFIn_1H1bU

    becomes:

    http://www.kickyoutube.com/watch?v=kZFIn_1H1bU

You are then given the option of downloading in several different formats.

This works very well. I use it all the time.

If I may ask in regards to the recommendation from Cameraz:

How do I know where the downloaded file will reside once done?

Can I designate a specific place?

    Thanks!
