In order to try and do this i followed the instructions as pasted below but when i reacher the 'Preference Page' there was nothing i could do to type in the sequence 135566 - once scrolling to the 'preferences' field that becomes highlighted in yellow but typing the 134466 number in nothing happens - if i press 'ok' first as though i am selecting or entering the 'preferences page' all that happens is that the first field 'audio' from the mainscreen drop down list (which reads as follows:
    Audio
    Subtitle
    Discu Menu
    Parental
    Password
Default) of 'Audio' is highlighted and to the left a list of languages (with English highlighted in White) appears - again, if i try to type in the unlocking sequence code with my remote - nothing happens - can anyone help with this.
Also, if i am successful in unlocking the player will it mean i can play both region 1 and UK region2 DVD discs

    - Press "System Menu" key to enter Set Up menu.
    - Move to "Preference Page" using arrow keys to the left or to the right.
    - Press the following sequence in the remote control: 135566
    - A menu indicating "Region Code" will appear.
    - Change region using arrow keys to top or down. Region Code = 0 will play all regions.
    - Press "System Menu" key to exit Set Up menu.

With regards to the hack codes, there are 3 possibilities.
    1) You are not following the instructions correctly.
    2) The instructions have left out some step that is critical to getting this done.
    3) The manufacturer has changed the hardware and the hack no longer works.

#3 is becoming more and more common all the time, even with Philips. It's impossible for me to know which is your problem.

If you unlock the player, you may not be able to play some region 1 DVDs. Hollywood figured out a way to try to prevent region free DVD players from playing region 1 DVDs. It's called RCE (see our Glossary section for an explanation). I don't remember which studios use it. If you have a disc that uses it, you will have to change the region of the DVD player to region 1 to play the disc. What happens is that essentially the DVD and player exchange some information to each other for playback to occur. With RCE, the DVD deliberately misidentifies itself as a region 2 disc. Since a region 1 player will not be able to play this disc, the DVD contains instructions that if the player says it can't play the disc, the DVD then re-identifies itself as being in region 1 and playback occurs. If the player says that it can play the disc when it identified itself as a region 2 disc then the disc refuses to play because it knows that only a region 0 (region free) or region 2 DVD player would be able to play a region 2 disc. Anyway, there's the basic explanation of how RCE works. So if you are able to set the region of your player to 0 and a region 1 disc refuses to play, you will have to set the region to 1 to play that disc.

You can always rip the disc to a PC and re-burn it. Every ripper I know of can remove RCE and region coding.
