I am currently using "Prism Video Converter" to convert about 4hrs worth of video in the mpeg2 format to .flv format
as i need to do this every other day.. is there a faster encoder out there? or is it just the hardware i use that matters?
maybe there exist a x64 encoder for .flv? dunno if that would make it any faster tho..

x264 will give you better quality, but slower
faster hardware will definitely make your conversions faster. If your application isn't multithreaded, you could run a few instances for example. Use taskmanager to check thread usage
not sure what encoder prism is using (ie. the actual back end engine, but I suspect it's ffmpeg)
You could try winff (uses ffmpeg), but not sure if it's faster than prism
