  1. Just wondering if the 300mbps is going to give a better range than 150mbps ?

In general the further you are from the router the slower the speed is going to be.

What we find (and this is in warehouses!) is that the maximum speed of the router has no effect on range. Range is more effected by location of aerials, size of aerials and the power output. Sometimes the channel number has an effect as does the base frequency of the transmitter and receiving unit. Also compatibility of transmitter/receiver can seriously limit range.

Having said all that it may still be that the faster unit will give more range but I'd not expect that to be a function of the throughput.

Yeah. I imagine the more data your pushing the more will get through even when it drops.

  4. There are some third-party firmwares that allow you to boost power output on some routers.

If range is a significant issue, make sure you get one with removable antennas. A few feet of extension cable allows for a much wder range of antenna placement. This can be critical for more range.

There is nothing inherent in higher speed giving better range, in fact some "turbo" or "boost" modes actually reduce range. However, newer units are generally faster and also newer units generally have better range. It is better design which makes both things happen, they are not necessarily related.

Be aware that units with special "enhanced range" features often only offer these benefits when used with receivers from the same company, and of the same model range.

  5. I literally just got the Dlink DIR-615, I'm thinking about getting the DIR-625 or Belkin's F5D8236-4. What do you guys think ?
