I want to be able to see long filenames of my Xvid and Divx files on my Philips DVD player and was wondering what the best settings are in ImgBurn? The app defaults to ISO9660+UDF and so I kept that, but don't know if Joliet needs to be there as well. On the Advanced/Restrictions tab there are numerous settings, with which I'm not too familiar, that deal with filelength restrictions. I tried Level X to get long names and while it appears to work for the player all spaces and punctuation show as underscores. I don't know if that is normal for the player or if there are better settings. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

EDIT: and I have updated the firmware to use long filenames (thanks, redwudz)

I wouldn't be surprised to see underscores to replace spaces in filenames, or probably with characters it doesn't recognize. And I assume you have changed the default firmware on the player to be able to display long filenames?

Ok, I did a little experimenting and the only thing one needs to do is add the Joliet label and select 1-64 chars method on the advanced tab. The Philips 5990/37 (with firmware upgrade for long filenames) will display nice long filenames:

    S01E18_-_AND__THE__WHIMPER_IS____.AVI

    becomes

    S01E18 - And (The) Whimper Is!....avi

(I added extra punctuation to the above name when burning to see how the player would react)

I still left the ISO9660 and UDF defaults, but the player uses the Joliet when present. Nice!
