  1. I need a codec to view the 720p mp4 clips from my cyber-shot camera. I installed the software it came with but it didn't seem to install the codec.

    It's a Sony W290 camera.

  2. Use mediainfo to determine which codec

    or

Just use vlc or kmplayer to play, they include most of the major splitters/decoders

What codec do I download to be able to view the video file with windows media player?

  4. ffdshow for the decoder
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow-tryout/files/

you may need a mp4 source filter/splitter if you don't already have one, just download the one from the following, and register the .ax with radlight filter manager

    http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli2/files/DirectShow%20Filters/

  5. I downloaded ffdshow, MP4Splitter.ax, and Radlight filter.

I clicked the register button in Radlight, selected MP4Splitter.ax, and I get an error message: DllRegisterServer failed in C:\Users\User\Documents\MP4Splitter.ax with error code : 0x80070005

  6. Are you logged in as administrator or have admin priviledges?

A quick search on Google suggests that error code has to do with access restrictions

Or maybe it's your security/OS firewall settings ?

  7. I'm logged in as admin and never had any problems installing anything else. What could I be doing wrong?

  8. Not sure, I just tried that exact procedure and it works here

You used the one dated MP4Splitter_20081210.zip?

Try registering in from a different folder, like the desktop (just grapsing at straws here, it shouldn't matter)

You still have to option to use another player e.g. mpchc, vlc, kmplayer

you can try: Splash or VLC.
i remember that i used Splash with sony t500 clips and worked fine.
i has its own audio/video codecs and supports dxva.

i believe he is just suggesting you install it because it will install a mp4 codec, not to use the player.

true, i didnt think about it.
but its still not the best solution

i would prefer splash or ffdshow instead.
