    Feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Reason I'm asking is I would like to play region 0 dvd's (similar to these)

    http://cgi.ebay.ca/UFC-31-37-7-DISC-BOX-SET_W0QQitemZ390081369214QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU...d=p3286.c0.m14

I am apprensive about getting them because I'm not sure if they will play in my region 1 portable dvd players without some sort of code switch.

Can they play without the use of a hack?

    The bad news for you...
Portable players can almost never be hacked. Many players cannot ever be made region free. In the USA and Canada, it is becoming more difficult every day to find players that can still be made region free as Hollywood has convinced almost all of the manufacturers to stop making players that can be made region free. There may not be a hack for either player.

Region 0 DVDs do not require hacks to play. However, if the video format is PAL and not NTSC, there is some chance that any DVD player sold in North America may not play them. You would simply have to try the DVDs on your players to see if they play or not. Please note that some DVD players that can convert PAL video to NTSC output often have the video output setting on something usually called either ANY or MULTI and that won't work for you. If you can change the video output on your DVD players to NTSC, then you should be able to play these discs without problems.

The sad reality is that almost all DVD players sold in PAL countries can play NTSC DVDs, but a large number of DVD players sold in North America can only play NTSC DVDs and not PAL. You'll simply have to test your players. Of course if the DVDs are in NTSC format and region 0, they should play fine on all of your players without any hacks.
