I have right now d/led handbrake and am shrinking a blu ray mkv file which is around 8.9GB to 8.5 GB so that it can fit into a DL dvd.

My pc hardware are as follows. E8400 c2d at 4.1ghz. 2x2 GB of ram at 910mhz. 4870 x2 OC version. Running this program on win vista 32 Bit.

When i started the video encoding to resize the file it said it would take 1 and a half hour. I was thinking is this normal, fast or slow?

Would the encoding time decrease if let's say i overclocked my cpu a bit more? Would using a quad core cpu or i7 further decrease the encoding time? I guess by half right since they have twice the cpu processors as a dual core.

To summarize: Is the cpu the only component that factors in the time taken to encode an MKV blu ray film.

Does the speed of cpu also aid in time taken or only the number of cores it has.

    Thanks

It would be better to ask the same question in your first thread instead of making 2 more threads which are related to your mkv question of encode speed, quad core would be faster.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

  4. h.264 encoders are usually well multithreaded. A quad core, or a quad with hyperthreading (looks like 8 cores), will encode much faster than a dual core.

I hate to tell you, but you're gonna have to do it over again. 8.5GB DOES NOT FIT on a DVD-DL disc! DLs are 7.95GB max. (see Videohelp's "What is DVD?" page, Sizes - DL section if you don't believe me).

I would speculate that he means 8,500,000,000 bytes which is supposed to fit.
