  1. Hello all,
i'm not sure if this really is a Mac specific problem. But since i could not try on a PC i guess it is best to place the question in the Mac forum.

Tried to play a Video with QT. Movie info said that codec is Avid Meridien.
Pushing the Play-Button does nothing. The film will not play. But you can scrubb through it dragging the scrubb-button through the timeline.

    Next we tried VLC mediaplayer.
Surprisingly the films plays fine there when hitting the play button but now srubbing doen't work.
Also in VLC the video is horizontally split in two parts.
Looks like the interlace fields are played in two separate screens (though still in one VLC window)

Can anybody shed a light on this behaviour?

the file uses an Avid specific file codec.
Unless you have Avid or Avid Xpress on your system,
(thus having the codecs installed) your gonna be SOL.

You should take it back to where you got it from and ask
if they can export the original out as a file type you CAN use,
    such as DV-Stream or XVID.
