Using an Intel Pentium 4 3.8ghz, Windows XP Pro, latest service pack. Audio card is RealTek ALC655 6 channel. Capture card is an ATI All in Wonder 9600. MMC version 8.8.
Connection is through Line In.
Everything is muted except for Line In, main volume, and wav volume.
Main and Wav were set to 100% by default. Line In was 75%.
Tried lowering all three to 50%, then main and wav to 50 and Line In to 75, among other variations. None of these changes are having any effect. The audio is coming out loud and distorted when the DVDR is played back.
Just for a laugh, I set everything to lowest possible setting, captured and burned. Audio was still loud, and actually seemed louder, if that is possible.
I have made volume adjustments through MMC and watched the slider on Line IN volume control move up and down, so I do feel that MMC and the sound card are interacting.
Any suggestions?

Are you sure you're adjusting the recording properties(Option->Properties->Audio Input)?

Try adjusting the mic input. Even though you're on line in maybe something is thinking it is using the mic input instead?
Also try adjusting "what u hear" levels. That might help.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Your setup is incorrect.
I have a computer where the MIC and LINE IN are color coded incorrectly, so check for that.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

I tried adjusting the playback and the recording volume settings to no avail.
I will try the playing with the mic settings tonight. I think I had it muted though, but I will doublecheck.
